How Not To Use The Bible As A Parent

As a parent your children hopefully see you as a loving and nurturing parent that wants the best for them. And hopefully you do expose your children to the bible through teaching at home and maybe bible study and teaching at church.

People in churches and some parents can but not always give the impression to their children that it is the law and if you break that law, God will punish you and in some extreme cases they are taught that he will kill you.

Using the Bible scriptures as a hammer or punishment is an almost guaranteed way to drive your kids from following God and learning his will for their lives.

This is a balancing act for you as parents. Your children should desire to learn about the Bible and what is contained in it. But if they are taught that any diversion away from the Bible teachings will result in something catastrophic it could just drive them away from it.

Men are competitive, and some are under pressure. Others are just a fuse waiting to burn down and go off. Some men may realize that they.can control their anger and point it at something they are passionate about or turn it into a drive to accomplish things.

But many men say I just can’t control my anger! Well unless you have a chemical imbalance which can be treated by medication if appropriate otherwise you can but self control for some people is difficult.

Think about this. What if all your kids and your spouse all they ever remember about you is your anger. Unfortunately this is sad but too true in many cases.

You can control your anger. Sometimes you will need to change some things that cause you great deal of anxiety or put a tremendous amount of pressure on you. Could be a job or co-worker or just everyday life.

Your health and mental health which really are the same is very important and too much anger, well eventually could be fatal. Men if you really can’t control your anger then seek help from a counselor. You might just find out you really can control your anger.

How Much Did I Mess Up My Kids?!

When you have kids somewhere along the way you might have made mistakes. Hopefully not too many but you are human as we all are and you probably somewhere along the way really messed up.

Did that affect your kids? Hopefully not but even if they just witnessed your mistakes they did experience it at least from their viewpoint.

Your kids always grow up to adulthood. If in being an adult they bring your mistakes up and either condemn the mistake or put guilt on you about that. That’s a tough one. What do you do?

I would suggest to you to own up to your mistakes and apologize if appropriate and ask your adult child if they can with you acknowledge this and move on with life.

Many times this can work if they can see that you are sorry for your mistakes made especially if it directly affected them. That may not work in all cases. If they just can’t let go of something and continue you to guilt you about this don’t hold onto this guilt forever. Put your mistakes behind you ask God for forgiveness and and move on. Hopefully with time they will too.

We are all human and make mistakes. This can be very difficult for some. A counselor might be able to help with these things.

Fix Your Relationship

In relationships today problems arise due to many factors. One of those factors being trust or lack thereof. With no trust between a couple you can’t even get off the ground to deal with other things. It takes two to trust so that would be a foundational place to start.

Next, communication. Without communication there is no way to even discuss what might be going wrong between two people. No communication is a barrier to progress. Sometimes it’s just figuring out how to be married especially if they are a new married couple and haven’t done this before. There will be mistakes made. Forgiveness will come into play here.

Next expectations not being met. Both parties in a relationship hopefully didn’t come into this thinking this would be nothing but conflict and strife. These issues must be resolved to both parties satisfaction. No trust and no communication will doom this relationship.

A couple’s problems won’t go away or just disappear. And acting as if this will happen is just a recipe for problems and possibly divorce. Seeking help from a counselor might be the thing to do before something neither parties wants happens.
