In a teenagers life in these times there can be much pressure and expectations placed on them by other people and possibly by themselves. It can create anxiety. Being around crowds or people we don’t know yet. If that makes you freeze up it might just be anxiety.
When a teenager becomes an adult the working world and the public aren’t particularly forgiving when it comes to being anxious. Anxiety can make you lash out at people you may not know. It can also make possibly make you lash out at someone you know and care about. Thats not what you want is it?
There is an old saying “change your mind and you will change your life”. It couldn’t be more true than with giving into anxiety. Most teenagers can overcome anxiety with a self determination and support. That support might be your parents or friends or possibly a counselor. Medication can play a role in some cases although evaluation by a medical professional would be needed in those cases.

Got An Identity

Kids in the age range from 12 to 18 are or should be searching for their identity. The absence of a fully developed adult is quite normal. They in many cases don’t have a clue who they are or that they might be assembling ideas as to who they think they might be.
Most kids want to fit in with the crowd. If they fit in at the expense of not finding out who they are then it can in time become a real disappointment.
Not being there real selves and trying to fit in with one group or the other will not work.
People will never get to know the kids real identity if it is masked by something else. And why should they accept a kid if they are not acting and showing their real selves. People will in time figure out that the child
is not being genuine.

It’s a fast moving world out there these days. Everything is instant. Well if you have experienced a life trauma and have never dealt with it or struggled to do what is necessary to fix the trauma then you could be missing out on a better part of you life. The problem could be physical, emotional and array of other things.
Counselors are not miracle workers. You are not a miracle worker either. A counselor is trained to help you go through the steps it takes to find out what your issues are, determine a course of treatment and help you follow through with that. A medical doctor analyzes your physical issues and prescribes treatment.
A counselor is much the same way with the exception of dealing with your emotional health. Most people do what their medical doctor tells them to do. Your counselor will do much the same.
Emotional or physical trauma not dealt with can wind up like not dealing with a heart attack. Chances are you will live for a short period of time but eventually there will be serious issues. Not dealing with emotional health is much the same. Quick fix for your life’s issues? Deal with your issues and live your best life. By the way there is no 50 minute fix to trauma but it can be a start.

Vicariously Living Through Your Kids
This video features counselors Dr Kevon Owen and Jack Smith and they are discussing “Vicariously Living Through Your Kids”.
Most parents want for their children only great things. Maybe things they couldn’t have themselves growing up. If you were an athlete you may try to divert your kid into athletics just because you did it or maybe you weren’t that good at it and you recognize some ability in them you didn’t have.
Or you may have some other ability or want for your kid to attend a particular college or university. Sound familiar?
What if your kid doesn’t want to go to university or be in athletics? Will you push them to do something they have no interest in? Will you insist against their will for them to be or do something they just don’t want to do?
That could be a recipe for resentment and possible failure in life. If you push them to be a star football player and they have some ability for it but it’s just not what they want to do is that what you really want? Maybe you should consider what your kid wants.
Counseling is a discovery process. Maybe you need to discover what your kid really wants to do and find out why you are so determined for them to do something they don’t want to do. Maybe it’s a point of trying to live vicariously through your kids.

Angry Driving
Angry Driving
This video features counselors Dr Kevon Owen and Jack Smith are discussing “Angry Driving”.
Do people who don’t know how to use their car blinker make you a little mad? The person who just cut you off, does this make you feel like blowing up? You might be suffering form anger, anxiety, road rage and maybe more.
When you are in your car with your wife and kids if you are under stress or pressure I am sure they can sense it. And if one kid does something do you blow up? If your wife does something to make you a little crazy does the pressure cooker boil over?
Thats really not how they should remember you. If you are under work stress, marriage or relationship stress or any other kind of stress it can turn quickly into anger and possibly road rage.
This is bad for you and something your wife and kids shouldn’t have to endure. There are ways to deal with and relieve this anger, anxiety and stress. Counseling might be a great place to get some ideas on how to do this.
