When you were growing up were you ever come down on or chastised in your opinion wrongly or just because your parents were the authority figures? There was no discussion just that’s the way things are when you know different?

Well you are not alone. Sometimes parents who were raised in the thought of parents are always right and kids are never right. And you should just deal with whatever they say. As an adult now you know in some instances they were very wrong in their decisions.

Not always but many times this sticks with a kid and they will resent you for it. Especially if they know better and you as parents were brought up to the thought of parents never being wrong and parents should never be questioned.

What if you did really come down too hard on your child and you were definitely wrong. Will you admit it or are you going to remain one of those parents who would never admit to being wrong. Your parents never admitted to being wrong so why should you?

You don’t have to repeat the actions of your parents. You don’t have to raise your children exactly like you were raised. Admitting you are wrong and being willing to be a human being about it will go along way with gaining your children’s respect and teaching them a valuable lesson about parenting. Doing the right thing isn’t a sign of weakness or letting your kids get something over on you. For some people this might be difficult. This is where a counselor can be of assistance.

Raising your kids in this day and age can be a challenge. With all that is available in technology your kids have more than any previous generation of kids in the technology realm. Video games are but one area of this.

Video games for kids and even some adults can be addictive. Kids love to stay up at all hours of the day and night playing these. As with anything a limited amount of this would be in order.

If it becomes a problem and you have to take away these games just because you take them away doesn’t diminish the want by kids to play these games. It can become an addiction. If they are not well hidden your kids will find them and sneak them behind your back.

This never good. Sometimes just taking the games and not hiding them adequately isn’t enough. Kids will search until they find them. You may have to take out the actual device they play them on along with the games. There should be no negotiations in this matter.

If your kids are really testing your patience over video games a few new ideas might help then speak with a counselor about this. A neutral party might be of help with these matters.

Defensive People

People who are defensive can be a challenge to deal with. Even if you are not challenging them about anything they are so accustomed to defending themselves they automatically go into defensive mode. They possibly have been bullied or abused by narccisistic or cruel people and are overly sensitive.

If you are a defensive person one needs to ask themselves why am I defensive? Many times insecure people when challenged and go into defensive mode and wonder why they are being challenged. Could there be a shred of truth to why they are being challenged about something?

Are you so offended by being challenged by another that you just can’t consider that you may need to change some things in your life? What is your goal. To optimize your life and make the best of your situation or just to win an argument that maybe you should consider changes about your self. help.

These are all thoughts and questions that may be a subject for a counseling session. An objective counselor could be of great help.

Since the pandemic our lives have changed. Some were locked down. Some had to work from home if they had a job that could be done from home, unfortunately some could not.

Computer, phones and tablets became our workplace, social life and more than we ever thought could be possible.

Counseling have in many cases has wen’t online too. The advent of this has been interesting to say the least.

While the effectiveness online counseling is missing the element of human connection and being in the same room, and is eye contact. Also body language and the neurons that fire when humans interact.

Bottom line online counseling can be very helpful mostly when mixed with physical visits. Online counseling is way better than no counseling. Not dealing with an issue can be very detrimental. If you require counseling be it in person or online be sure and take care of your mental health. It’s part of your overall health.
