Can’t Or Won’t

In this weeks video counselors Dr Kevon Owen and Jack Smith are talking about “Can’t Or Won’t”. Your mind and your self-talk are more important than you may realize. If you tell yourself that you can’t do something then it can become a self fulfilling prophecy. ” I can’t lose weight” or “I can’t be successful’. You most likely will see these things come to pass. Change your mind and the way you speak to yourself and you might be very surprised as to what happens.

Doing this when you have had a lifetime of practicing this can be more difficult than one thinks. You can change this. Notice everything you are telling yourself. Are you defeating yourself before getting started? I won’t is a declaration of your dedication of refusing to do something. I can’t is a declaration of doubt you can perform or fulfill something. Both are defeating. You can change your mind and actions and self talk. Depending on the level of this is how difficult it might be to change.

Consequences

In this weeks video counselors Dr Kevon Owen and Jack Smith are talking about “Consequences”. As parents your children are going to invariably somewhere do something they aren’t supposed to. The action or behavior that they do must come with the consequences that follow. Some are natural, some aren’t.

But the consequences should help to teach them that their actions aren’t Ok. Like if you do “action A” then you get “reaction B”. If you run a red light you are likely to get a ticket from law enforcement. If you don’t pay your electric bill the power company will shut off your power. Just examples but it shows an action and the consequence of it.

Punishments should fit the offense. And should always be carried out with love and understanding. Better to learn from the parents than the hard way in real life.

These are difficult subjects for parents but also children or teenagers who have no real life experience yet and don’t realize what can happen when an action or behavior causes a situation that can become serious.

Love Is Not Jealous

In this video counselors Dr Kevon Owen, Destini Ramsey and Brent Hazelwood are talking about “Love Is Not Jealous”. Love is a choice. Being jealous and having envy is a choice as well. You desire to have or be what another person haves or you perceive them to be. Jealousy is in our nature and has to be controlled by ourselves to not be jealous or envious of others. Some people are just jealous due to lack of knowledge and it being in ourselves naturally. Overcoming this is another matter altogether. You can find out what the person who say has a skill or something we would like to have and find out what it takes to develop that for ourselves. That could be a positive step to overcoming jealousy.
