Just Stop It!

You might remember your parents or a relative or loved one telling you to Just Stop It! This could have been for many reasons but one reason I am sure of is that whatever you were told to stop doing, I bet you had control over what you were doing so you could stop it.

You still have that control over your actions. What if you realized that you have control over your depression or diet or other circumstances? Would you change or turn those things off or change your mind?

You can change a lot in your life by just changing your actions or by stopping what is causing your issues. Not as simple as it sounds you say? Well maybe in some cases but in many others you actually have the power to just stop that bad relationship, or change your thinking that might be a challenge for you. But it begins in your mind. The term “you are what you eat”? Well you are what you think you are too. Counselors can help you see your shortcomings or realize a different way of approaching things.

Counselors listen to people to try and get to the issue they are having. As with you they can’t just fix someone but are trained to listen and be objective and offer advice and ideas the person may have not thought of.

How Do You Know You Have The Right Counselor?

This video features counselors Dr Kevon Owen and Shawn Maguire and they are discussing “How Do You Know You Have The Right Counselor”.

Choosing the right counselor for you could be a bit of a search. As you see your current counselor are they able to connect with you and your situation? Are they meeting you where you are in life?

Choosing the right therapist? You can have a general discussion with your counselor but it might be a good idea to get to the heart of your matter as soon as possible. Be aware of what your counselor seems to pickup about your situation. Has he or she dealt with the things you have brought to them.

Counselors can be very different from one another. Some might be very direct, some might be more of an information gathering type to access how they need to handle your particular case. Their approach only matters if it connects with you and your situation. And you might not like some therapists approach but consider if it might be just what you need.

Seeing a counselor and checking to see if they are right for you is the only way you will know if this is the counselor for you. Many times you will know in a visit or two if this is the person who can be of assistance to you.

In a world where social interaction can be extremely important to some. Irrational fears or social anxiety can be very overwhelming to many.

Don’t let your self get too caught up in this. Most people are thinking mostly about themselves or their world that they live in. Not what you may fear that they might think of you. Some self confidence and making sure that your irrational fear of something is truly something to be concerned about or just our mind working overtime. When you fell this happening to you try diverting yourself to something more productive and positive that will help build your self confidence.
